Return (Quartz Mountains)

This time I went somewhere I haven’t been to in a long time. When I was younger I went camping a few times at Quartz Mountain State Park, so I decided to visit and see what had and hadn’t changed.

About mid-morning I was walking along the beach. I was the only one there, which allowed me to slow down and take things in. I framed the first image using the shoreline to lead to the mountains in the distance, then I set up my tripod. Framing up the same shot I used a neutral density filter on the front of my lens to drag out the shutter speed. It had a nice effect on the waves in the water that I’m pleased with.

That evening I watched the sun set over the cove from a dock. I like the colors and the sense of peace that this picture has. Once again, I was able to take advantage of a long shutter speed (8 seconds) to smooth out the surface of the water.

I enjoyed returning to the Quartz Mountains after all this and getting a few chances to experiment with long-exposure photography. If you’d like to see more of this trip, then check out the video below. Take care of yourselves, bye for now.
