Getting Away (Caprock Canyon)

I really needed an escape, so I planned a camping trip to Caprock Canyon.

I took this image near the top of the canyon looking at the northern rim. Summer can be kind of hard for me photography wise mostly because the weather, and the heat that usually comes with it. I try to look for views and features in the landscape that stand out to me, anything I can photograph now and maybe even revisit later in the year.

I did most of my exploring and hiking in the morning before it got too hot. I got this shot towards the bottom of the canyon at the end of the morning before the sun reached a position in the sky that would have made all the shadows disappear. I like all the texture in the rock face and I think this image really shows the rugged beauty of this place.

All day there were no clouds in the sky, and according to the forecast the skies would stay clear through the night. Knowing that, I was on the lookout for a composition to get a picture of the Milky Way during the night. This was harder than it sounds, because most of the features in the canyon are on the northern rim, but the Milky Way would be to the south. Despite that I found these three peaks and decided this would be my shot.

You should never rush the hands of time, but you should definitely slow down and take time for yourself.

If you would like to ride along on the journey of this trip, then watch the video below. Bye for now.
